Ex-LIV Golf boss Greg Norman to help shape Brisbane 2032 Olympics
Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Former LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman will be part of the organizing committee for the Brisbane 2032 Summer Olympics, the Australian said Thursday.
LIV Golf announced Jan. 15 that Norman was replaced by Scott O'Neil as CEO of the PGA Tour rival league. Norman was then nominated to serve as an independent director on the Board of the Brisbane Organizing Committee for the 2032 Summer Games. The two-time British Open champion is the most successful Australian golfer in history.
"While I wish I could wind the clock back four decades and compete in 2032, it is a privilege to help shape the Brisbane Games," Norman said in a news release." In my youth in the 70s, I worked in the golf shop at Royal Queensland, and now that course will be the home of golf at Brisbane 2032.
"As a proud Queenslander, it is an honor and privilege to help shape the Brisbane Games. We will prove our credentials as world leaders in events, sport and hospitality and create an incredible legacy for this state."
The Brisbane Olympics board is led by organizing committee president Andrew Liveris and includes kayaker Jess Fox, wheelchair racing star Kurt Fearnley and sprinter Patrick Johnson.
"I am absolutely delighted," Liveris said. "What better Australian sports brand is there than Greg Norman? What better Queensland sports brand than Greg Norman? He will help put our state and our city on the global map over the next seven years."
