Shattenkirk, 35, was one of the top free agents left. While he drew interest, he did not find a landing spot that would make sense. Due to this, the 2007 first-round pick has hung up the skates.
Shattenkirk had a nice 14-year NHL career. In 952 career games split between the Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, Lightning, Anaheim Ducks, and Boston Bruins, he had 103 goals, 484 points, and a minus-29 rating.
Shattenkirk was a Bolt for only one season in 2019-20, but he made a big impact while with the club. In 70 games, the right-shot defender had eight goals, 34 points, and a plus-22 rating. He was also excellent during the Lightning's path to the Stanley Cup, posting three goals and 13 points in 25 games.
Overall, Shattenkirk had a strong NHL career as an impactful offensive defenseman.
