Ex-Lightning Defender Is Canadiens' Top Trade Candidate
The Montreal Canadiens currently have an 8-13-3 record and the fewest points in the Eastern Conference. Because of this, they are expected to be sellers at the trade deadline this campaign, and several of their players have already created chatter in the rumor mill.

One specific Canadiens player who is standing out as a prime trade candidate because of this is former Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman David Savard.
Savard, 34, is currently in the final season of his contract, so he should generate plenty of interest as we get closer to the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline as a rental. He also has a reasonable $3.5 million cap hit, which adds to his appeal.
Savard is a big, right-shot defenseman who plays the top four minutes and kills penalties, so he should be a valuable trade chip for the Habs. He also has a Stanley Cup on his resume after winning with the Bolts, so playoff teams should make a big push for him.
Savard has appeared in 23 games this season with the Canadiens, where he has five assists, 22 hits, and 61 blocks.
