Gianluca Zambrotta feels that Inter Milan are the “team to beat” in Serie A, but that Napoli and Juventus are not far behind.

The legendary former Juventus, Barcelona, and AC Milan defender gave his thoughts on this season’s title race in an interview published in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

At the moment, the top end of the Serie A table is fairly tightly-bunched.

Napoli are the team on top of the pile after seven matches. They have recovered from an opening day loss to Hellas Verona, amassing sixteen points so far.

Meanwhile, last season’s champions Inter sit just behind the Partenopei on fourteen points.

The Nerazzurri suffered their first defeat of the season in the derby against AC Milan. But they bounced back with consecutive wins against the likes of Udinese and Torino.

Then, Juventus are just behind Inter on thirteen points after a disappointing draw against Cagliari prior to the international break.

Lazio are actually level on points with the Bianconeri. And AC Milan are a little further back after a number of setbacks early on in the season.

Zambrotta: “Inter The Team To Beat In Serie A, Napoli & Juventus Close Behind”

There are still more teams who will aim for the top places in Serie A.

Atalanta are certainly one of them. And then the likes of Roma and Fiorentina have had fairly mixed starts to the season.

But at the moment, it looks like Napoli and Juventus are probably the teams who will put Inter’s title under the most pressure.

2006 World Cup winner Zambrotta noted that “Inter dominated Serie A last season.”

“They’re the team to beat,” he argued.

“But Napoli are currently top of the table. And, without European matches to think about they can rest and prepare for matches better.”

“Then Juve are close behind,” Zambrotta anticipated.

“They’ve done very well in the Champions League,” he noted of his old team.

“They could have done a little better in Serie A so far. But they can fight for the title.”
