Ex Inter, AC Milan & Real Madrid Striker Analyzes Supercoppa Italiana Slump: “Will Be Difficult To Bounce Back”
Antonio Cassano believes Inter will need time to recover from last night’s Supercoppa Italiana heartbreak against AC Milan.
Speaking on Viva el Futbol via FCInterNews, Cassano questioned Simone Inzaghi’s managerial credentials.
Indeed, the former striker pointed at Inzaghi’s substitutions in a wayward second half.
“Inter is so strong that they can win any match at any pace,” he said.
“Against Atalanta, one of the toughest teams they could face, they won 4-0 in August and 2-0 just a few days ago.
“But when they encounter stubborn teams, their coach struggles to adapt. Simone Inzaghi substitutes position for position.
“At some point, Hakan Calhanoglu gets injured, Kristjan Asllani comes in, and he struggles.
“Even Piotr Zielinski entered poorly. Not every time, at 2-0 or 2-2, will players give you a lot.”
Mehdi Taremi and Lautaro Martinez fired the Nerazzurri 2-0 up with over 40 minutes left on the clock.
However, Milan seized their chances in the second half to inflict Inter’s second domestic loss this season.
Antonio Cassano Analyzes Inter Milan Supercoppa Italiana Slump
“Recently, Inter has always managed to pull through,” Cassano added.
“The issue is that they play at a very slow pace.
“While their strength and individual talents usually resolve games, teams like Barcelona or Liverpool dictate the game themselves.
“Milan showed they have more heart, even with 24 hours less rest.
“Inter got hit hard, conceding three goals in half an hour.
“I hope I’m wrong, but it will be difficult to recover from such a blow -some doubts might start to emerge.”
Meanwhile, Cassano urged Davide Frattesi to depart Inter.
“If I were him, I’d go to Roma,” he stated.
“At Inter, if he has to replace someone, it’s Nicolò Barella. The two of them can’t play together because, in Inzaghi’s mind, Frattesi is Barella’s backup.
“I’d go to Roma. Other teams want him too, but if I were him, I’d say thank you and leave.
“The coach wants him to stay but doesn’t see him as a starter. It’s easy to win like that.
“At Napoli or Inter, Frattesi won’t play, so I’d go to Roma, where he could partner with Manu Koné and Leandro Paredes.
“He needs to leave Inter because Inzaghi simply doesn’t see certain players; look at Davy Klaassen.
“He wasn’t playing last year and now is Ajax’s second top-scorer.”
