Ex-Devils Forward Thriving With New Team
The New Jersey Devils suffered a tough 2-1 shootout loss to the Florida Panthers last night. Former Devils forward Jesper Boqvist contributed to the Panthers' win, scoring Florida's loan regulation goal early in the third period.
Boqvist, 28, quietly signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Panthers this past off-season and has become a key part of their lineup since. With his strong night against New Jersey, he now has 10 goals and 18 points in 42 games this season for the Panthers. That is solid depth offensive production, especially at his bargain cap hit.
Boqvist is not slowing down as the season carries on, too. The 2017 second-round pick has three goals and four points over his last five games and nine points over his previous 11 contests. Thus, he is playing some of the best hockey of his career right now.
Seeing how Boqvist builds on his hot streak from here will be fascinating. If he keeps playing so well, it would not be particularly surprising if the Panthers looked to sign him to a contract extension.
