Ex-Devils Defender Claimed Off Waivers By Maple Leafs

Former New Jersey Devils defenseman Dakota Mermis has been reclaimed off waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Maple Leafs lost Mermis through waivers to the Utah Hockey Club earlier this season. Thus, when it was announced that Utah had placed him back on waivers, it seemed possible that the Leafs would bring him back. Now, they have done just that.

Mermis appeared in just one game for Utah after being claimed, where he had zero points and a minus-2 rating. He also played in three games on a conditioning loan for the Toronto Marlies earlier this season, posting one assist and six penalty minutes.

Mermis will now once again serve as an experienced depth defenseman for the Maple Leafs following this latest claim. In 10 games as a Devil during the 2019-20 season, he had one goal and three assists.
