Why ex-Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith congratulated Derrick Henry on career milestone

Dallas Cowboys legend and the NFL’s all-time leading rusher Emmitt Smith recorded a congratulatory message for Baltimore Ravens star running back Derrick Henry after the Alabama product crossed 10,000 rushing yards in his career.

“I just want to say congratulations on getting into the 10,000-yard club. That is a feat that not many men have crossed and you have represented the state of Florida, just like your boy did and I love it,” said Smith, “I want to celebrate you right now because you deserve it. Not many people are gonna get there but you have made it.”

Smith and Henry are both natives of Florida and each ended their high school careers as the state’s all-time leading rusher and both wore the No. 22 jerseys during their NFL careers.

Henry was the 32nd player in NFL history to cross 10,000 yards and accomplished the feat in the Ravens 41-38 overtime victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in week five of the NFL season.
