Ex-Bruins Forward Has Monster Game With New Team

During this past off-season, the Boston Bruins elected not to re-sign veteran forward James van Riemsdyk. The veteran winger spent much of the summer unsigned before inking a one-year contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets in mid-September.

van Riemsdyk, 35, has primarily been a depth forward for the Blue Jackets since signing with the Metro club. In 32 games thus far, he has six goals and 12 points. While he is not necessarily dominating with his new team, he had an excellent game against the Detroit Red Wings last night.

While the Blue Jackets fell to Detroit by a 5-4 final score, van Riemsdyk certainly did his best to keep them in it. The 2007 second-overall pick had two goals and an assist in the contest.

For his first goal, van Riemsdyk tipped a Cole Sillinger shot past Red Wings goalie Cam Talbot on the power play to open the scoring.

van Riemsdyk then recorded the primary assist on Sean Monahan's second-period goal that tied the game up at 3-3.

Then, van Riemsdyk ended his big night by scoring a late third-period goal that tied the game at 4-4. This was another nice goal from JVR, as he worked hard in front of the net to bury home an Adam Fantilli rebound.
