Following the game, Wild defenseman Jacob Middleton expressed clear frustration to The Athletic's Michael Russo about McDavid's elbow on Johansson.
"It's horse----," Middleton said. "I don't care if he's the best player in the world." According to Russo, Middleton also said that it would have been handled differently if the hit were from Ryan Hartman or Marcus Foligno.
Johansson, 34, has been solid for the Wild this season, so it will be less than ideal for them if he ends up missing time due to injury. In 44 games this season with Minnesota, he has five goals and 16 points. He is also just one point away from hitting 500 in his career.
