Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer was “precious” for the Nerazzurri as they beat Venezia 1-0 in Serie A yesterday.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They also criticize the Nerazzurri backline for some switch-offs, and hail the importance of Lautaro Martinez’s goal.

Inter had a tougher match than they perhaps would have expected yesterday evening.

On paper, Venezia would have been one of the more straightforward fixtures of the campaign for the Nerazzurri.

The Lagunari are one of the teams who are fighting to stave off relegation to Serie B. They currently find themselves right near the bottom of the Serie A table.

But Venezia had been coming into yesterday’s match high on confidence.

Eusebio Di Francesco’s team had secured a vital three points against Udinese in a 3-2 win during the week.

And the Lagunari’s performance showed their confidence and belief that they could get a surprise result.

Inter had a number of chances to score. Perhaps they could have scored more than just one goal.

However, a combination of some profligate finishing from the Nerazzurri and a string of outstanding saves by Inter-owned keeper Filip Stankovic in the Venezia goal restricted them.

And at the other end, Inter keeper Sommer had to respond.

And that is exactly what the former Bayern Munich, Borussia Monchengladbach, and Basel keeper did.

Sommer particularly impressed with his saves on the likes of Joel Pohjanpalo and Gaetano Oristanio.

The 35-year-old may not be able to take too much credit for some of Inter’s clean sheets.

But yesterday’s certainly owed a lot to Sommer’s experience and reflexes.

On the other hand, the Corriere argue, the Inter backline – and in particular Alessandro Bastoni – lacked some focus and precision when Venezia got forward.
