Ex Bayern Munich Veteran Admits Inter Milan ‘Knew It’d Be Tough’ Vs Young Boys In Champions League
Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer feels that the Nerazzurri “knew it’d be tough” coming up against Young Boys in the Champions League.
The 35-year-old spoke to RSI, via FCInterNews, after the 1-0 win. He reacted to what proved to be a harder evening for the Nerazzurri than many would have predicted.
Inter got the three points they were after in the end.
The Nerazzurri beat Young Boys 1-0 to make it two wins in a row in the Champions League and continue their unbeaten run in Europe.
But it was anything but a straightforward match for the Nerazzurri.
Inter may have been facing a team who had lost their opening two matches in the competition against Aston Villa and Barcelona, on top of domestic struggles.
But Young Boys imposed themselves on the match and put Inter’s goal under plenty of pressure.
Inter Keeper Yann Sommer: “We Knew It’d Be Tough Vs Young Boys”
“It was a difficult match for us,” Inter keeper Sommer said after the match.
“Playing against a team who are used to the artificial pitch.”
“The important thing is that we won. Now we have Arsenal on the way, and then other top teams.”
The Nerazzurri keeper admitted that “There was a bit of luck.”
“Things went our way in certain situations when they attacked,” he said. Young Boys did have some dangerous attacks that didn’t quite come off, including hitting the post.
“That’s how football is,” said former Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach keeper Sommer.
Of Inter’s defensive record, Sommer said that “Last season we defended very compactly and with energy.”
“Today we made some errors in possession and that caused us to open up.”
“Young Boys have a lot of quality,” the 35-year-old said. “And we allowed them some chances.”
“Before the match we were taking it step by step,” Sommer said. “We knew it’d be tough against Young Boys.”
“And we were only going to start thinking about Juventus afterwards,” he said.
