Euro 2025 qualifiers: England defeat, Netherlands go top
The Euro 2025 Qualifiers continued their march on Friday. With the qualification stages for next summer’s tournament well underway, match-day three saw 25 fixtures take place across Europe.
Just 16 teams will qualify for Euro 2025, with Switzerland the only side guaranteed a place as hosts. Let’s recap the latest round of results.
League A
With eight games being played in League A, the third round of the Euro qualifiers got underway. Norway and Italy’s run-in ended in a goalless draw, despite multiple good chances for both sides. A 1-0 win over Finland saw the Netherlands go top of Group 1.
Czechia were handed a defeat by Belgium as the hosts remained bottom of Group 2. Spain pulled off a comfortable two-goal win over Denmark. A convincing 3-0 win over Ireland saw Sweden move into the automatic qualification places, as England dropped to third. The Lionesses suffered a 2-1 defeat at St James’ Park following a lacklustre performance.
Austria and Iceland played out a 1-1 draw, with two penalties providing all the action. Sarah Puntigam and Glodis Viggosdottir both converted their spot-kicks to earn their sides a point. Germany delivered a crushing 4-1 defeat to Poland with Giulia Gwinn bagging a brace inside four minutes.
