Euphoria star Chloe Cherry – who worked as an adult film star before joining the hit HBO series – has opened up about how being called "fat" by someone she previously worked with triggered her eating disorder.

In an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Chloe looked back on her time within the adult film industry, recalling how at just 18-years-old she developed an eating disorder after receiving harsh comments about her weight from a former agent. "He said, 'Everyone says that you’re fat and the fastest way to lose weight is by not eating.' He said that to me and I was like, 'What the f*ck'," she told the show's host.

"It just turned into an eating disorder cause I was so young at the time," Chloe added. "He said that to me when I was 18, and it was so f*cking freaky because no one in my whole life had ever said that I was fat and then it just became an obsession."

Speaking about how eating disorders can be triggered by comments like these, director of external affairs at Beat, the UK's eating disorder charity, Tom Quinn told Cosmopolitan UK: "Whilst negative comments about weight and appearance are not the only factors that contribute to an eating disorder developing, we know that they can have an extremely damaging impact on those with or vulnerable to eating disorders."

Quinn went on, "Idealising thinness and putting pressure on people to lose weight can encourage people to engage in eating disorder behaviours in order to achieve a particular body shape or weight, which can contribute to an eating disorder developing or worsen existing symptoms."

After battling with her eating disorder for several years Chloe, who is now 24-years-old, revealed that rebuilding a healthy relationship with food and with her body wasn't easy, but thanks to a supportive network around her, she made it through. "To get out of it really took a lot of me opening up to all my friends," she admitted. "Opening up about it suddenly made it all come down."

Looking back on her eating disorder, the actor said, "I was just miserable and not treating my body well." Since then, Chloe says she's stopped the unhealthy habits she once followed, instead treating her body with the love it deserves. "Now that I don’t count a single calorie and literally just eat anything I want and do anything I want, my body actually looks better than it ever has my entire f*cking life."

She continued: "Either I can decide to feel really good about myself or no one else will."
