Estudiantes 'agree fee' for Cincinnati superstar Lucho Acosta
Argentine club Estudiantes have reportedly 'agreed a fee' to sign FC Cincinnati superstar Luciano Acosta.
According to MLS insider Tom Bogert, there is no agreement on personal terms as of yet, but Acosta remains keen on moving back to his home country.
The 30-year-old has been a standout in MLS since signing with DC United in 2016, banking 72 goals and 97 assists in 251 total games in stints with United and FC Cincinnati.
But after the 2024 campaign, Acosta seemingly desires a move away from Cincinnati, with other MLS clubs reportedly monitoring his situation in Ohio.
After the season, Acosta told Argentine media that he was ready for a new chapter in his career.
"This was a very recent decision I made to leave, I feel I’ve completed a cycle after four years of playing in Cincinnati," he said.
"It’s time to find a different scene and see how things can be resolved. If the opportunity to return to Argentina arises, I’d love to take it."
The former MLS MVP was late to preseason training this winter as he angled for a transfer, but he is now with the team in Florida ahead of the 2025 campaign.
