ESPN reports Grayson McCall will return to Coastal Carolina as offensive analyst
While he won’t take the field in teal, Grayson McCall is a Chanticleer once more.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported McCall’s return to CCU as an offensive analyst for the upcoming 2025 season on Jan. 6, 2025, via X, formerly known as Twitter. CCU’s athletic department also announced the hire via a press release.
““So fired up to come back home!” McCall said in the press release. “I’m very thankful for Coach (Tim) Beck and Coach (Drew) Hollingshead for giving me such a great opportunity. Can’t wait to light up the scoreboard in Brooks just like old times!!! Chants Up!”
As the face of Coastal’s football program, McCall helped lead the Chants to one of their most successful runs and into the national spotlight. McCall threw for 87 touchdowns and nearly 10,000 yards passing in about 3 1/2 seasons as Coastal’s starting quarterback, and the team reaped the rewards of his efforts.
Coastal won almost 40 games between 2020 and 2023, two bowl titles and McCall became Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year three times. However, a head injury ended McCall’s time at Coastal and, eventually, his playing career.
Knocked unconscious against Arkansas State in October 2023, McCall missed the remainder of the season with a concussion. He opted to transfer to N.C. State to play his final college football season, but a second concussion versus Wake Forest ultimately forced McCall to retire.
McCall said in October 2024 press conference that he’d suffered six concussions in his career.
