Erin Andrews responds to ageist comment that she's 'too old' for sportscaster role

Erin Andrews isn't a rookie anymore. In fact, she's shown that she is still at the top of her game.

The sportscaster, who serves as Fox Sports' NFL sideline reporter, addressed online criticism of her aging in a clever social media post earlier this week.

A social media user fixated on Andrews' physical appearance after the news personality interviewed Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown on Thanksgiving Day following the Cowboys’ holiday matchup against the New York Giants.

After drawing criticism online for her physical appearance, sportscaster Erin Andrews is responding to the comment that she's "too old" for TV news.
After drawing criticism online for her physical appearance, sportscaster Erin Andrews is responding to the comment that she's "too old" for TV news.

"Erin Andrews is too old now," X user @MikefromManhat1 wrote on Nov. 29. "Can visibly see the wrinkles on the HD. It's been a great run for Erin, but it's time for a younger blonde/brunette to take over."

The ageist remark didn't appear to faze Andrews, 46, who responded in an X post of her own on Tuesday. The mom of one wrote, "Don't even think you need HD to see them. But appreciating you pointing them out bud!"

The sports journalist and "Dancing with the Stars" alum joined Fox Sports in 2012 following an eight-year stint with ESPN, according to Andrew's biography on Fox Sports' official website. While at ESPN, she covered sports such as hockey, college football and basketball and also served as one of the hosts of ESPNU's "College GameDay."

During her time with Fox Sports, Andrews has taken part in some of the network's biggest coverage, including three Super Bowls, 10 NFC Championships and the 2014 and 2015 World Series/MLB All-Star Games.

Andrews' professional prowess was recognized in 2022 when she was honored with the Pat Summerall Award, a prestigious accolade named after the late sportscaster Pat Summerall.

Fans defend Erin Andrews after criticism of her 'wrinkles'

Several fans took to the comments section of Andrews' X post to show their support for the sportscaster.

"You are the G.O.A.T. of sideline reporters (and) arguably one of the best sportscasters of all time," @tom5485 wrote. "Don't let nonsense like this get to you."

"Erin is smart, articulate, and beautiful," @nutseller commented. "One of the best in all of sports."

"Erin is terrific at her job, and it's not about age," Sports Illustrated writer Tom Brew wrote on X. "It's about wisdom, and you have none. I hope Erin keeps doing her thing for a long time."

"You're aging gracefully and still beautiful," @jasbrando commented. "Your reporting is top notch, and that's (what) matters."

"You are still beautiful, but more importantly, you are very, very good at your job," country singer Cooper Wade wrote. "Those of us that know (and) love sports appreciate you for how good you are at your job and you have always been that way. The other people watch sports for the politics and the fleeting pretty faces."
