Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has claimed that the team are unsure whether or not Marcus Rashford or Antony will be ready to take on Liverpool this Saturday night in South Carolina.

The Red Devils were completely cursed last year when it came to injuries as according to the BBC they had the most problems of any team in the Premier League with 45 different cases.

It is hoped that this bad luck will not strike twice but it is hard to be optimistic considering how many fitness blows have been picked up this tour of the United States.

In the previous match against Real Betis, Rashford had to leave the pitch just before the hour mark after he was appeared to be stamped on by the Spanish side’s defender.

Antony was also strangely subbed off after only joining the action in the 60th minute and headed straight down the tunnel with both seen limping as they left the stadium.

Speaking on the matter at his Thursday press conference he stated, “we have to wait. Of course, we don’t go into risk, into the last game of the tour, going into the season next week already, into an important game [against Manchester City].”

“We are still within the 24 hours after a game, so the final assessment we have to make and we will see if they are ready for the final game on Saturday against Liverpool.”

United will be hopeful the injuries are not too serious as they were rocked by the catastrophic news that new signing Leny Yoro will be out for three months and striker Rasmus Hojlund for six weeks after picking up issues against Arsenal.

There was some good news on returning players however as the United boss claimed that some key reinforcements were on their way.

“Of course we have a plan for every individual where they have to show up and that plan is now running. Alejandro (Garnacho) will already, tomorrow, start training. Licha (Lisandro Martinez) will start on Monday so I have it in my mind, and that there is a plan and the need for every player in the off-season.”

Both players were vital in United’s FA Cup victory over Manchester City in May so Ten Hag will be hopeful they can both make an appearance against the same opposition in the Community Shield and certainly Fulham in the opening game of the Premier League season.

The club still awaits the return of further key individuals like Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw to the first team squad after their exploits at Euro 2024.
