Erik ten Hag responds to Cristiano Ronaldo's Man Utd comments

Erik ten Hag has responded to Cristiano Ronaldo’s criticism of him and Manchester United.

Ronaldo accused his former manager of being unable to win the Premier League or Champions League at Old Trafford.

The five-time  Ballon d’Or winner, now with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, also claimed the Red Devils need to undergo wholesale change.

But Ten Hag suggested Ronaldo, who left in 2022, has an outdated view of the 20-time English champions despite having no issue with his comments.

“He said that Manchester United can’t win the Premier League,” Ten Hag told reporters.

“He said this if you read the article very well. He’s far away in Saudi, far away from Manchester.

“Everyone can have an opinion. It’s okay.”

Ten Hag also confirmed that United will be without Rasmus Højlund for Saturday’s trip to Southampton but that new signing Manuel Ugarte is in contention.

“Manuel Ugarte, you will have seen he played for Uruguay,” added the United manager.

“He returned this afternoon. he was the only player who returned today, the rest yesterday, so he is available for this game.

“Rasmus Højlund and Luke Shaw are progressing very well but not ready [for Southampton].”

United will be aiming to return to winning ways after suffering a chastening 3-0 loss to Liverpool before the international break.
