When Jurgen Klopp announced he would be leaving his position as head coach of Liverpool in January this year, he declared that he would never manage a team in England that isn’t Liverpool.

The German coach went further, with ESPN reporting that he called any returns to management ‘the biggest loss of face in the history of football’ at this early stage, ruling out a return to management.

At the International Coaches’ Conference in July, however, Klopp did say that he was too young for solely ‘padel tennis and grandchildren’, stating that he still wants to work in football.

And now the managerial merry-go-round may be about to unexpectedly sweep him back into action.

An Italian Job?

InterLive are reporting that Simone Inzaghi is being eyed as the next manager of Manchester United if they were to part company with the under-fire Erik ten Hag. The Italian has lead Inter to a Serie A title last season and a Champions League final the year before that, giving Manchester City a torrid time in the latter game and being unfortunate not to pick up the victory.

After an effective 0-0 against City at the Etihad two weeks ago - another game in which they were unlucky not to score - he has apparently turned heads.

As a result, InterLive report that Inter Milan are eyeing Jurgen Klopp as a replacement to Inzaghi if this were to happen. They also report Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone in on Inter’s list also.

It would be a remarkable coup if the Nerazzurri were able to tempt the Liverpool legend back into management. One of the main reasons he left Merseyside was burnout and a return after only one season seems unlikely due to this.

It would be in line with Klopp’s reputation of managing giants of the European game. Inter have been performing at a high level for multiple years now, breaking Juventus’s stranglehold on the Italian league in 2020-21, the team have only gone from strength to strength since then.

The German recently returned to his former Borussia Dortmund side to manage a testimonial game. There is every chance this gave him the taste for being back in front of the crowds.
