Enzo Maresca has opened up on the difficulties of keeping everyone happy at Chelsea and revealed whether it has now become more difficult.

A lot was made of Chelsea’s squad size over the summer, but the good start to the season has shown the Blues have got a good squad with plenty of options to rotate.

Maresca has been able to field an entirely different side in the Conference League, leading to people talking about an A and B team at Chelsea.

This rotation has worked well in the first half of the season, but it seems there could be some problems on the horizon.

With the Conference League not returning until March, the Blues have lost the ability to rotate and give players minutes who aren’t featuring regularly.

Renato Veiga is pushing to leave just six months after joining the club, whilst the future of Christopher Nkunku is up in the air given his current playing time situation.

Maresca faces a difficult task in trying to keep the Chelsea squad happy.

It’s very difficult to juggle a squad and keep everyone happy, but it feels like things could now get more difficult for Maresca.

The Italian was asked this very question before the Bournemouth game and admitted it was very much an impossible task.

“If we can, yes, but it is impossible because the ones that are not playing are not going to be happy,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“Our target is to, first of all, to do the best for the club and the team, that means trying to win games.

“Also, if we can keep players happy, then we are happy but that is not the reality: the players are happy just if they play and if they don’t play, then they are not happy.”

Maresca is right in the sense he’s fighting a losing battle to keep everyone happy, but with less games and less chances to rotate it means players who were previously happy now might not be, which could lead to potential issues in the future.
