England Women vs Czech Republic LIVE!

England's 15-game winning streak came to an end as the Lionesses played out a 0-0 draw against the Czech Republic at the Amex Stadium.

After beating the United States 2-1 at Wembley on Friday, England did manage to maintain their now 24-game unbeaten run under manager Sarina Wiegman but could not stretch their run of successive victories despite hitting the woodwork twice, in front of 21,222 on the south coast. It was a game of milestones and first appearances with Lucy Bronze gaining her 100th England cap, while Esme Morgan made her debut and Lauren James her first start.

England came close in the fourth minute but Lauren James - on her first Lionesses start - saw a shot rebound off the post. The match was broadcast live on terrestrial TV, via ITV. You can also keep up to date with all the action via Standard Sport’s live blog below - featuring expert analysis from Simon Collings at the Amex.

Second-half highlights

21:58 , Marc Mayo

England just unable to get one over the line after their pressure.

21:54 , Marc Mayo

A post-match huddle on the pitch for England with a bit of a team talk and still a few smiles as they look to shake off that disappointing result.

Full time!

21:51 , Marc Mayo

A goalless draw at the Amex for the Lionesses.

CHANCE!

21:50 , Marc Mayo

90+4 mins: A low cross in meets Hemp whose shot is blocked! That looked like it could have been the breakthrough...

21:49 , Marc Mayo

90+3 mins: A hearty chant of ‘Sweet Caroline’ from the home fans as England maintain their pressure into the dying moments.

For the 12th time tonight, they have a corner... Taken quickly and short, the looped cross is headed away.

21:46 , Marc Mayo

90 mins: We have four minutes of added time.

21:45 , Marc Mayo

89 mins: Kirby to Mead who again pops up as the threat on the left, a curled effort heading for the far corner clipping a defender to win another corner.

21:43 , Marc Mayo

86 mins: Bronze pings a diagonal into the box which falls for Kirby, swivelling onto her left she lets fly with an effort that Lukasova parries over the bar!

Back-to-back corners for the Lionessess as their pressure continues...

SAVE!

21:39 , Marc Mayo

82 mins: Lukasova rushes out to deny Mead after the England winger turns her marker in the box, opening up a left-footed opportunity.

Daly is on for Stokes before the corner, which ends up back wide with Mead before Salmon fouls Mrazova.

21:37 , Marc Mayo

80 mins: A poor corner from the Czechs ends their latest flurry forward.

Down the other end, Mead, now operating on the left, struggles to deliver a ball in and England resume possession by the halfway line.

Not long left for a winner...

Over in the World Cup qualifiers...

21:34 , Marc Mayo

Republic of Ireland lead Scotland at Hampden Park with not long left there.

Wales were earlier knocked out by Switzerland in added-on time in extra time, with Portugal progressing past Iceland.

21:33 , Marc Mayo

77 mins: All too cute for England on the 18-yard line with a lack of shots coming in - only 12 so far tonight despite almost 70 per cent possession.

21:30 , Marc Mayo

73 mins: Not looking good for Slavia Prague full-back Slajsova, who is applauded by the 21,000-strong crowd as she departs on a stretcher.

Dlaskova is on in her place, with Martinkova and Mrazova also coming on.

21:26 , Marc Mayo

69 mins: Nice from England around the Czech box and there best play comes when the full-backs push high, Stokes appearing on the left to float a cross that is just a bit too deep to meet a target.

A stop in play after a painful one for Slajsova, her ankle rolling after a tangle with Hemp.

21:21 , Marc Mayo

65 mins: Hemp now playing wide left with teenager Salmon up front, Kirby on her shoulder.

21:18 , Marc Mayo

62 mins: Wiegman does indeed turn to her bench as Manchester City’s Morgan replaces Bright at the heart of the defence, England now playing four natural full-backs across their backline.

Salmon makes her debut in place of James.

Simon Collings at the Amex

21:17 , Marc Mayo

Much better from England this half, with Mead injecting some pace into the attack. Salmon, who has been in great form in the NWSL, should offer even more of that.

CLOSE!

21:16 , Marc Mayo

59 mins: Somehow England aren’t ahead!

Hemp bears down on goal and a delicious chip clips the inside of the post and Kirby can’t scramble it over the line. Blimey!

CHANCE ENGLAND!

21:13 , Marc Mayo

56 mins: The fans’ first chance to see Mead racing at goal, latching onto a fine clipped ball by Bright over the top and drawing the goalkeeper off her line.

Her first touch is just a little strong and Lukasova smothers her second, preventing a serious shot on goal.

Khyrova replaces Szewieczkova for visitors in attack.

21:10 , Marc Mayo

53 mins: The Czechs form a three-on-two breakaway that sees Krejcirikova let fly from distance because England have the pace to get back in time. Earps isn’t troubled as it goes wide.

CHANCE!

21:07 , Marc Mayo

50 mins: A better final ball as Bronze feeds Mead down the right, the Arsenal winger whipping in a good ball for Hemp.

The striker is back-tracking as she plants a header goalwards, and it loops harmlessly over.

21:04 , Marc Mayo

47 mins: Early activity from England as the keeper palms clear a cross above Kirby. It’s the Chelsea forward in the mix again as Stokes rolls in a cute pass towards goal, which is just about dealt with by the defence.

Bronze is the next to venture forward and once again the lay-off to Kirby lacks the required pace to find her striker.

Kick-off!

21:01 , Marc Mayo

The Czechs kick the second half off in Brighton.

A short pre-half huddle from the hosts, who have introduced Mead for Kelly.

First-half highlights

20:59 , Marc Mayo

Chloe Kelly on the end of a fine piece of play by Lucy Bronze, on her 100th appearance for England, but the header went just wide...

Second half coming up!

20:57 , Marc Mayo

Former England player Karen Carney in the ITV studio outlines what she wants to see from England: “Second half I really want tempo in the game, energy, forward passing a lot quicker, getting our one-v-one plays in - and exciting the crowd.

“It definitiely hasn’t been the same tempo.”

First-half highlights

20:53 , Marc Mayo

The closest England have come... only minutes into the match. Lauren James very nearly bagging her first international goal.

Simon Collings at the Amex

20:49 , Marc Mayo

England been the better side, but all pretty tight at half-time. Czechs very physical and making it difficult for the Lionesses.

Lauren James been good on first start, pace and power causing problems out wide.

Half time!

20:46 , Marc Mayo

It’s England 0-0 Czech Republic at the break.

20:43 , Marc Mayo

43 mins: Half time approaching as James goes on another nice run to set up Kirby, only for a very nice Necidova tackle to deny her through on goal.

Can England get the breakthrough before the whistle?

CHANCE!

20:41 , Marc Mayo

40 mins: Staskova finds herself in a great position after Greenwood gives the ball away by her own corner flag.

The defender busts a gut and flies into make a vital block on the shot and Earps gathers the shot.

CLOSE!

20:39 , Marc Mayo

38 mins: Really nice from Bronze, marauding right to left and linking up with James to deliver a fine in-swinging cross towards the back stick.

Up goes Kelly with the header... but she doesn’t get enough on it and the effort flashes wide.

Over in the World Cup qualifiers...

20:37 , Marc Mayo

Brutal for Wales as they concede in the last minute of extra time away to Switzerland!

Elsewhere, Portugal are cruising past Iceland, 4-1 up in extra time, and Scotland are level with Republic of Ireland.

20:35 , Marc Mayo

35 mins: Again, a fine England break collapses agonisingly!

Kirby spins a lovely pass out wide right to Bronze yet the right-back tumbles as he attempts to control the bounce of the ball, allowing the visitors to get back in numbers and end the attack.

20:33 , Marc Mayo

32 mins: It just doesn’t come off for Kirby after England win the ball in the Czech half.

James is completely free to her left but a loose pass picks out the only defender left.

20:30 , Marc Mayo

29 mins: The offside flag has popped up unwantedly for England at a couple of set-piece moments and Bright’s flicked header, which goes wide, is victim of a poor flagging from the assistant ref.

20:27 , Marc Mayo

The Czechs are doing a good job of stifling England by sitting deep and trying to hit them on the counter. Feels like the Lionesses are missing a bit of Stanway’s energy in midfield.

20:24 , Marc Mayo

22 mins: As many as three Czech defenders rush out to deal with James, allowing the chance to set up Hemp on the 18-yard line.

The striker takes aim on her weaker foot and Lukasova can claim easily enough on her goalline.

20:21 , Marc Mayo

19 mins: A big burst forward by Bronze pushes England forward and a neat exchange with Kelly sends Toone through, but the ball has just a little bit too much on it and the goalkeeper gathers.

There’s the power of Bronze from the right-back spot that has earned her 100 caps for her country!

20:17 , Marc Mayo

16 mins: There is certainly some ability in the Czech team when they get the ball on the ground in the middle third.

Work for England to do in winning possesson back with a loose Kelly pass handing it back after Bright put a good foot in.

Stokes fouls Svitkova on the edge of the box for a good free-kick position... it’s high, deep and out of play by Szewieczkova.

Simon Collings at the Amex

20:12 , Marc Mayo

A really bright start from Lauren James. She has got past her opposite number a few times, with ease as well, and looks a threat.

20:12 , Marc Mayo

11 mins: More quality from James down the left, you sense any chance to get her on the ball is a big boon to England.

Kirby gets caught on her feet as the cross is knocked down and Czech Republic survive.

A sense of the Lionesses turning the screw here...

20:10 , Marc Mayo

9 mins: A good break down the middle from Toone sees the ball moved wide to Kelly...

The defenders are hot on her case though and snaffle out an attempt to put the ball into the box.

20:07 , Marc Mayo

6 mins: Good work from Hemp to win another corner off Slajsova and the delivery looks dangerous into the near post, but the visitors scramble it away.

England not yet comfortable in possession, however, with the Czechs looking decent.

POST!

20:04 , Marc Mayo

3 mins: England get their first chance to swing in a corner and Kirby keeps the clearance alive, the ball moved wide left to James who effortlessly beats her defender before stinging a fierce shot against the near post!

A lovely early sighter for the winger.

20:02 , Marc Mayo

2 mins: An early corner for Czech Republic is repelled by Bronze before the ball is recycled back into the box, and a volley is flashed over the bar!

Kick-off!

20:00 , Marc Mayo

After England take the knee, Hemp gets the ball rolling in Brighton.

19:57 , Marc Mayo

A well observed Czech national anthem before God Save The King is belted out around the Amex.

It’ll be interesting to see England line up. It will most likely be a 4-1-4-1 or a 4-3-3, given there is no other natural holding player in the squad other than. Kirby and Toone together should be fun.

Wiegman discusses England future

19:16 , Marc Mayo

England manager Sarina Wiegman has held positive talks with the Football Association (FA) over a new contract, but she is yet to put pen to paper.

The FA are now looking to tie Wiegman down to a new contract, with her current deal due to expire in 2025.

Reports over the weekend claimed Wiegman had agreed fresh terms on a new deal but, speaking on Monday, she said: “No I haven’t signed a new contract.

“I am very happy with the contract I have. And yes we have had conversations, very good, and I feel very valued and we are all happy. So that is what it is and I hope we keep it that way and we keep performing well.”

Century up for Bronze

19:11 , Marc Mayo

A big night for Lucy Bronze as the right-back makes her 100th appearance for England.

The 30-year-old said ahead of tonight’s game how she learned to appreciate every moment on the pitch due to a persistent knee injury.

“I was told at 20 years old that I wouldn't play past 27," Bronze said.

“I think that's why I never set 100 caps as a goal for England, I just wanted to play as much as possible.”

Three changes for England

19:03 , Marc Mayo

Georgia Stanway misses out through injury with Beth Mead and Rachel Daly on the bench.

In comes Ella Toone at the heart of the midfield and Lauren James gets her chance to impress in attack.

Demi Stokes starts at left-back.

Schoolgirls’ campaign continues

18:49 , Marc Mayo

Arsenal and England players Leah Williamson and Lotte Wubben-Moy will meet the Secretary of State for Education in November as the Lionesses push for young girls to be able to follow in their footsteps.

After winning the Euros this summer, the whole victorious England squad signed an open letter to the then Conservative Party leadership candidates Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss.

In it they called for all girls to be given the chance to play football at school, while they also asked for the Government to ensure girls have access to at least two hours of PE each week and the guidance of female teachers in the subject.

Truss has since been made Prime Minister and the England squad met with her on Monday as she visited a training session at the Lensbury Hotel in London.

Truss then had a meeting with captain Williamson and Wubben-Moy, who was the driving force behind the letter. The FA’s director of women’s football Baroness Sue Campbell and CEO, Mark Bellingham, were also present.

World Cup qualifiers also taking place tonight

Wales are a goal to the good in Switzerland as they pursue a spot at next year’s World Cup.

Scotland take on Republic of Ireland at 8pm in Glasgow while Portugal are facing Iceland right now, which like the Wales game is approaching half time.

Victory for the Welsh would seal an inter-continental play-off place due to their status as the worst remaining team in the play-offs, in a bit of a complicated system that will all become clearer tonight.
