Marc Guehi rejects any suggestion he has been England's best player at Euro 2024 but says he is enjoying testing himself on the international stage.

The Crystal Palace defender has impressed in a back four that has the lowest expected goals against (1.1) of all teams in the tournament but Guehi does not agree he has played the biggest part.

"It's nice to hear [but] I don't think I'm the best player," he said. "It’s a collective being able to defend really well. It's testament to the entire team as it is the pressure from the front.

"I think there's been quite a few good performances."

The 23-year-old missed a chunk of the 2023-24 season with a knee injury but got his chance for England after Manchester United's Harry Maguire was ruled out.

"I'm just really enjoying the tournament and enjoying being here," he said. "I think my strengths are to be continued. I'm continuously developing everything and trying to get better in every part of my game."

Guehi is joined in Germany by Palace team-mates Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton but it is the absence of full-back Tyrick Mitchell that has begun to draw more attention, particularly with the dearth of options at left-back for England.

"I would have loved T to be here," Guehi added. "He’s had an amazing season and been very consistent with his performances.

"If he carries on, as we have seen with England players, he will get his chance."
