Emerson Royal admits he likes playing alongside Musah and responds to ‘complex question’
Emerson Royal had one of his best performances since joining AC Milan during the win over Empoli, and he revealed that he likes playing in the ‘new’ system.
After Davide Calabria got the nod to start during the Champions League win over Slovan Bratislava last Tuesday night, Emerson came back into the starting line-up as Empoli came to San Siro.
He was praised in our player ratings, getting a 6.5 with the following comment: “He was beaten pretty blatantly at the back once, but then he picked himself up and was involved in the first two goals, playing the passes for Leao and Pulisic respectively. He also had some pretty good tackles in the second half.”
After arriving at the club from Spurs amid general scepticism and continuing to draw scrutiny with some shaky early performances, the Brazilian seems to be slowly growing. Having Yunus Musah to support him on the right has helped too, both on Saturday and in the Real Madrid win.
Emerson Royal gave an interview to SportMediaset at the end of the game and it was published yesterday, with his comments coming via MilanPress.
A victory and a clean sheet must feel nice…
“For us this was very important because we are working so hard for this and for us this match was beautiful.”

Has something changed in your heads after the last few games?
“It is a complex question. No, I don’t think so. I think that as the matches go by, we are improving as a team. Today we saw that we all play as a team, all united, fighting for each other. This is what is needed to win.”
How do you feel with Yunus Musah playing on your side?
“It’s different. He’s a very consistent player, he’s very strong, he’s young but he has a very strong personality. He helps defensively and he has quality with the ball.
“It’s a formation I like to play in, because Musah helps me laterally and we can also switch. He’s a young man who deserves the best.”
