"That Was Embarrassing, From Top To Bottom We Did A Horsesh** Job"; Jets' Head Coach Blasts Team After 5-2 Loss

Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel put his team on blast after they were thoroughly defeated 5-2 against Utah HC.

The Jets went down 4-0 to Utah before scoring twice in the third period to bring a glimmer of hope to those who stayed up late to watch Monday's game. The Jets weren't able to get into high-danger scoring areas and rarely threatened Utah's goaltender Connor Ingram.

Following the defeat, Arniel spoke to the media and voiced his displeasure in a way he has rarely done so this season.

"That was embarrassing," said Arniel. "That was, of all the games this year, that was the most embarrassing game for me, for our players, I take full credit. I gotta be the one that holds these guys accountable and make sure we’re better. That was embarrassing. From top to bottom, we did a horseshit job."

Arniel took accountability for being unable to spark the team but yesterday's game highlighted some of the problems the Jets have faced on occasion. If the Jets don't score on the power play or get the opportunities on the power play like they did against Utah, they struggle to open up the game offensively. Life becomes difficult for Kyle Connor and Nikolaj Ehlers who are so great at generating chances off of the rush, when their opponents don't feel any pressure to push for offence.

When the Jets struggle to generate chances, the defence core feel obligated to be more aggressive and it can backfire. Utah scored their second, third and fourth goal of the game off of the rush that was generated from a turnover or mistake by the Jets' blue line.

Most of the Jets' trade rumours are centred around the possible acquisition of a defenseman but they could use help in their top six. Promoting a player from their AHL affiliate the Manitoba Moose, like Nikita Chibrikov could help but acquiring a forward via trade could help them find what they are looking for.

The Jets have had a great season and no team is perfect but they still have a lot to learn and add if they want to be the team lifting the Stanley Cup at the end of the season.
