Elite high school big man from Germany considering KU basketball, four other schools
Blue-chip high school senior basketball big man Eric Reibe has narrowed his list of colleges to five schools, including Kansas, several recruiting sites reported Tuesday.
Reibe, a a 7-foot, 230-pound senior from Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland, who is ranked No. 23 nationally by ESPN, No. 26 by Rivals and No. 27 by 247Sports, has a final five of KU, Creighton, Indiana, Oregon and UConn.
Reibe will make his fifth campus visit — to Oregon — this weekend. He has not yet announced a date for his decision on a school.
“Kansas‘ play style fits me a lot, especially after watching (Hunter) Dickinson, who is leaving after this year. So, there’s an immediate opportunity for me to step in and fill that role. There are a lot of opportunities for minutes, and coach (Bill) Self’s winning history is very impressive as well,” Reibe told Stockrisers.com.
He also spoke with zagsblog.com, saying: “I‘m the one replacing Hunter Dickinson and the role as a 4-5 player, very broadly speaking. Kansas‘s play style fits me a lot.”
Reibe, who is originally from Germany, earlier had North Carolina, Kentucky, Harvard, Ohio State, West Virginia and Stanford on his list.
Rivals.com’s Houston Wilson wrote of Reibe: “When Eric Reibe is on, there are not a lot of big men that I have seen dominate like him. ... Standing at 7-foot, he can finish well around the rim, hit mid-range shots consistently and stretch his game out to the perimeter. Defensively, he is a stud, too, and is improving as a rim protector.
At the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Orlando in June, he averaged 19.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.
“Eric Reibe is an extremely skilled big man with mobility and touch both inside and out,” ESPN’s Paul Biancardi said. “His basketball IQ is high, and his rebounding is consistent. Won’t find any more skilled at his size.”
