(Lost-Canadians) (Audio: 079)

N-D-P immigration critic Jenny Kwan says new proposed legislation on citizenship for Canadians born abroad will be significant for those known as "Lost Canadians."

Kwan say the legislation would automatically confer citizenship rights to children who were affected by changes Stephen Harper's Conservative government made in 2009.

The amendments prevented Canadian parents born abroad from passing down their citizenship, unless their child was born in Canada.

The government says it has no idea how many people will be automatically granted citizenship if the legislation is passed. (11)

(Mtl-University-Injunction)

Université du Québec à Montréal is seeking an injunction against a pro-Palestinian encampment on its downtown campus.

The protesters set up the camp a little over a week ago, demanding the university cut ties with Israeli institutions and disclose its links to Israel over its war in Gaza.

U-QAM (yoo-KAM') says protesters are posing a safety risk by blocking an emergency exit, being in possession of gasoline canisters and iron bars, and potentially "overloading" the university's electrical network with unauthorized extension cords. (11)

Pickton was reported to be in a life-threatening condition after Sunday's attack, and police have said a 51-year-old suspect is in custody.

Pickton was convicted of six counts of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison in 2007 after being charged with the murders of 26 women. (11)

Forecasters are expecting an above-average Atlantic hurricane season this year.

The U-S National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says La Nina conditions and higher than usual ocean temperatures will likely bring more major hurricanes.
