Eight former Barcelona players that the club can still buy back
Over the course of the last few years, FC Barcelona has seen many departures take place. Some are more recent and for more complicated reasons than others, such as that of Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester City. However, Barcelona have also lost a handful of promising talents over the last few windows as well.
These players have all gone for various reasons, and each has their own individual tale and background. Some of them belonged to La Masia but believed that their chances to feature in a first team would be greater elsewhere, while others were considered as possible exits due to their specific roles at the club already being well-covered.
However, it is also true that Barcelona has some special clauses applied to certain players that could have various results. As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan club has attached not just sell-on clauses to the contracts of certain players, but also buy-back clauses in case they want those players back at Barcelona.
Here are eight such players that Barça can still recover for certain prices attached to them.
Mikayil Faye (€25 million)
The latest departure that has such a clause attached to his signing for Rennes, Barcelona let the player go for around €10 million but has a buy-back clause in place for him. In case the Catalan giants believe that a return would be justifiable for the talented Senegalese defender, they would have to cough up €25 million.
Abde Ezzazouli (€20 million)
Having enjoyed his loan spell at Real Betis and feeling like he would have more playing time there than at Barcelona, the Moroccan winger was signed by the La Liga side for around €7.5 million. However, Barcelona has a €20 million buy-back clause that can be activated by them.
Oscar Mingueza (€9 million)
Currently enjoying a great spell at Celta Vigo with five goal contributions in La Liga, Oscar Mingueza is another option that Barcelona could consider bringing back. With an affordable buy-back clause, the versatile defender is not exactly a bad option to reconsider a future at Barcelona for.
Riqui Puig (€10 million)
Once a talented member of La Masia, Riqui Puig has since been trying to make a name for himself over in the United States of America. Currently a player for LA Galaxy, he left Barcelona two seasons ago but the club still has a 50% sell-on clause attached as well as a buy-back clause that is reportedly set at €10 million.
Carles Alena (€10 million)
Having initially sold the player to Getafe for €5 million, Barcelona still retains the option to buy him back for €10 million. However, this option is only valid until his contract with Getafe expires in 2026.
Francisco Trincao (€20 million)
Having been transferred to Portuguese side Sporting CP for around €10 million in total, Barcelona have maintained both a 50% sell-on clause on the player but the club also has a €20 million buy-back clause on the player.
Nico Gonzalez (€30 million)
Now a player at Porto in Portugal, Nico Gonzalez is a player who has former experience both in the Barcelona first team and in La Liga in general. Beyond the 40% sell-on clause that was agreed upon when Porto bought him for €8.5 million, Barcelona also has the option to buy him back for €30 million.
Estanis Pedrola (€7 million)
Formerly a promising winger from the Barcelona subsidiary, Estanis Pedrola now plays his football for Italian side Sampdoria. After having activated the option to buy him for €3 million after ten appearances from the player on his loan over there, Sampdoria could still lose the young winger if Barcelona can pay the €7 million to buy him back.
