Edmonton Oil Kings' Owen Mastroianni: "Great Experience" at Training Camp

Mastroianni may have only played a pair of WHL games in the 2023-24 season, but the 17 year old forward is eager to get a full season under his belt as the September 20th regular season opener rolls in; playing a major role in his team's 6-4 victory in Sunday's main camp matchup.

What has your experience been like over the course of the last few days?

It's been fun. The boys have been getting along really well. They set it up a little different from last year, with a 10 minute practice before, which I really like; gets your hands and your feet moving a bit more so it's been fun that way. It's been a great experience so far.

A lot of guys obviously are returning from the Oil Kings of last season, a lot of former teammates. With everybody battling for a spot, what's the vibe been like in the room over camp?

The vibe's been really good, a lot of high energy, a lot of guys are fighting for spots and want them. So, the compete level's been really good and everyone's giving their all, which is great.

For those that may not know who you are, how you play, what's either something that you want people to notice about you?

I want people to notice that I'm quick, like I don't give up on plays and I work hard.

The Golden, British Columbia native also noted that he likes to model his game after New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes.

Lastly, heading into the rest of the summer, as well as preseason, what's one thing that you would like to work on?

I just want to get my shot better as well as my wall play, also getting the puck out of the zone.

Edmonton's preseason begins on September 7th and 8th, with a pair of games against the Prince George Cougars in Edson, Alta.
