EDGE Darrell Taylor explains what type of player the Bears are getting

The Chicago Bears bolstered their pass rush by trading for edge rusher Darrell Taylor, who was acquired from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick.

Taylor, a former second-round pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2020, spent the last three seasons in Seattle, where he totaled 91 tackles, 22 tackles-for-loss, 21.5 sacks and five forced fumbles in 49 games, including 13 starts. His best season came in 2022, where he amassed a career-high 9.5 sacks.

Taylor explained exactly what kind of player the Bears are getting in him, and it sounds like he's going to fit in just fine with this defense.

"Man, they're getting a very explosive player," Taylor said. "A player that's going to be relentless. A player that's very passionate about the game of football. You're going to see that every day in practice. You're going to see that obviously on the field. I'm just excited to be here and excited to be part of the organization."

Taylor will be part of a rotation at defensive end opposite Pro Bowler Montez Sweat, who's coming off a 12.5-sack season. The group also includes DeMarcus Walker, rookie Austin Booker and Dominque Robinson, who coach Matt Eberflus hinted might get one of the final roster spots.

"We'll play that hot hand," Eberflus said. "I feel really good about all the guys who are out there right now: Booker, Dom, D-Walk and all those guys who are hot and let them rush."

For Taylor, his arrival in Chicago marks him remaining in a 4-3 defense, where he feels most comfortable. Seattle is installing a 3-4 scheme under new coach Mike Macdonald.

"I know we're a 4-3 defense and I'm excited to be moving forward, like going straight all the time," Taylor said. "I'm excited about that part. I get to play forward, get to put my hands on guys and stuff like that. I'm excited to be in this defense, and just hearing from the guys, there's an opportunity to rush the passer here and I'm excited to do that, too."
