Japan boss Eddie Jones says he was abused by a fan at Allianz Stadium during his side’s defeat to England.

During a lively post-match press conference, Jones also said he would respond to Danny Care’s allegations against him in a new book.

Jones claimed he was abused by a fan at half-time of his side’s 59-14 defeat when he was heading to the changing rooms.

“It wasn’t bad until some clown abused me going down to half-time,” said Jones, who was in charge of England from 2015 to 2022, when asked about being back at Twickenham.

“But if there is only one clown in 81,634, it’s not too bad. So it was good mate [to be back at Twickenham].

“Obviously disappointed with the result, but it’s always good to come to the home of rugby - fantastic atmosphere.

“And again, for our players to have experienced it, having now experienced Stade de France and now experienced Twickenham when some of them are in their first 10 caps, is like gold to them. It’s like gold to the knowledge of what they need to do to compete in this area and win in this area.”

Asked what was said to him, Jones replied: “He said something, obviously, but I am not going to repeat it here. I’ll get into trouble.”

Jones had been absent from pre-match media in the build-up to this Test due to illness and so this was the first time he could be quizzed on Care’s allegations against him.

Former England scrum-half Care described the environment under Jones as “toxic” when writing about it in his new book this month.

But asked for his response, Jones said: “I will tell you mate, I’ve got a new book deal coming out, just signed it today, it’s called ‘Caring About Care’, so you’ll get all the details in it.

“I’ve got pre-order forms. You can come up, leave your pre-order forms. I am trying to do a deal with the Daily Mail but I haven’t come to an agreement yet, but if you want to read about it then there you go. It will be a good one.

“I am serious mate. I am very serious. If you want to read about it, you read it in my book. That’s how you get headlines. I’ll put a whole chapter, ‘Caring About Care’, just for you.”
