Eddie Dunning, painter of the Gamecock on Williams-Brice football field, has died
Eddie Dunning, a longtime employee of South Carolina athletics, has died. He was 69 years old.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Eddie Dunning,” USC wrote Wednesday in a post to X (formerly known as Twitter). “... He will be greatly missed.”
Dunning painted the Gamecock at midfield of Williams-Brice Stadium every year since 1984. He volunteered through Harvest Hope Food in Calhoun County for 20 years. Dunning received the WISTV/Mungo Homes Community Builder Award for his community service in 2017. In 2011, he was named South Carolina’s teammate of the year.
Dunning died Saturday at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, according to his obituary.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brown Chapel AME Church, with interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery, St. Matthews, SC. A public viewing will be held Monday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
