EBUG Alert: Ottawa Senators Goalie Anton Forsberg Hurt During Warmup

After the Ottawa Senators blanked the Carolina Hurricanes 3-0 on the road on Friday night, there was plenty of talk about which goaltender might get the start tonight.

Linus Ullmark got the shutout in Raleigh and stood at 5-0-1 in his last six starts. Anton Forsberg was the well rested backup but had lost four of his last five games. So with the Sens in a dogfight to stay in the NHL Eastern playoff mix, some fans suggested they were best to ride the hot hand.

However, in a back to back situation with travel, the Sens opted to give Ullmark some rest and roll with Forsberg. Shortly before game time, though, fate had other plans.

The injury meant the Senators played without a backup goalie on their bench, but their EBUG had arrived and was ready if needed. At least physically.

According to the Sportsnet broadcast, University of Ottawa goalie Zach Dietz, who's played just six games total with the Gee Gees in the last two seasons, was settling in on his couch to watch the game when he got the call to get to the rink.

The 22-year-old played four years for the Burlington Cougars of the OJHL and hadn't played much for U Ottawa but when he has played, his numbers have been good.

Dietz apparently didn't have a car or a ride, so he jogged to the arena, with his gear in tow, on a cold December night in Ottawa.

The kid may not have played, but he did get a hell of a workout.
