Easton Cowan Narrowing In On Doug Gilmour's OHL Record

Easton Cowan's ongoing point streak reached 50 games last night after the Toronto Maple Leafs' prospect scored a pair of goals in a 5-3 win over the Sarnia Sting.

Cowan's 50-game streak extends back to Nov. 24. It has been nearly a year since anyone watched a London Knight's regular season game that did not include a point for the dynamic young forward.

He is knocking on the door of the all-time OHL point streak. Doug Gilmour set the record during the 1982-83 season when he recorded 55 consecutive games with at least one point.

If Cowan continues his streak, he will have the opportunity to break Gilmour's record on Thursday, Nov. 28, in a game against the Peterborough Petes.

So far this season, Cowan has scored 12 goals and added seven assists for a total of 19 points. Last year, he was awarded the OHL Most Outstanding Player (Red Tilson Trophy) after scoring 96 points during the regular season.

In the playoffs, he scored an astounding 34 points and was subsequently awarded the OHL Playoffs MVP (Gretzky 99 Award). At the Memorial Cup, he scored eight points in just four games even though London failed to win the trophy in the finals.

He also played for Canada at the World Junior Championships last winter. He had a goal and an assist in five games played. He is likely to have a larger role to play for Canada at the tournament this season.

Cowan's success has translated into success for the London Knights who currently find themselves on a ten-game winning streak. The streak became the longest active streak last week after London defeated Kitchener ending their winning streak.

Maple Leafs fans, London fans and OHL fans will all be watching Cowan closely in the coming weeks to see whether he can break Gilmour's record. If he does, he will add another massive accolade to his growing list of trophies.
