East Central makes it back-to-back 5A state championships

East Central needed just five innings to dispatch of Saltillo in game three of the 5A state championship series in Pearl.

The Hornets jumped all over the Tigers in the first inning, scoring six runs before Saltillo saw the plate at Trustmark Park and racing to an 11-0 victory.

Brason Owenby pitched five scoreless innings for ECHS, allowing just one hit against 24 batters faced.

Nate Trochessett and Andrew Marble were two of four players with a multi-hit game. The two drove in a pair of runs each and scored a combined four times.

East Central needed three wins in game three’s during the playoffs, highlighting the experienced roster’s ability to swing through adversity.

It’s the program’s fourth state title and the first time the Hornets have gone back-to-back.
