Keith Dambrot has plenty of coaching experience.

Dambrot took over at Duquesne last season after 13 years at Akron, where he led the Zips to three NCAA Tournament appearances. He even coached LeBron James briefly when he was a freshman and sophomore at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, which doubled as Dambrot’s hometown.

The 60-year-old, though, lost his cool on Wednesday night — likely worse than he ever has before throughout his coaching career.

Dambrot’s late meltdown

Things were all tied up late on Wednesday night in Duquesne’s game against Penn State at PPG Paints Arena. With just 10 seconds left, Penn State’ Lamar Stevens drove all the way down the court and straight to the rim, drawing a blocking foul with just five seconds left.

That didn’t sit well with Dambrot, who started fuming.

Dambrot instantly started yelling at the officials, clearly thinking it should have been called a charge. He quickly drew a technical foul, which only set him off more.

Dambrot had to be held back by several staff members and even some of his players before he picked up his second technical foul and was ejected from the game.

Because of Dambrot’s two technical fouls, Penn State was awarded four extra free throws on top of the two that Stevens had earned through the foul.

The Nittany Lions hit all six free throws, giving them the 73-67 win — which also covered the 5.5-point spread at the last second.

LeBron James, Dambrot’s daughter share laugh on Twitter

Dambrot’s daughter, Alysse, was in attendance at the game on Wednesday night — and naturally was on the edge of her seat in the final seconds.

While she, like her father, wasn’t happy with the final call — she called it “garbage” on Twitter — Alysse did manage to find some humor in her father’s freakout.

Duquesne guard Tavian Dunn-Martin — who was one of several people who attempted to hold Dambrot back — quote-tweeted a video of his coach’s reaction and double technical after the game.

Alysse loved Dunn-Martin’s reaction on Twitter, which helped her laugh about what had happened.

It also caught James’ eye, who thought it was hilarious — especially when his former coach’s tie had spun sideways around his neck.

While Dambrot, and those who bet on Duquesne to cover the spread, likely aren’t over the game yet, at least his family — and the best player Dambrot has ever coached — can have a laugh about it.

That has to count for something, right?
