Ducks Prospect Sennecke Named December OHL Player of the Month

Beckett Sennecke's entire calendar year of 2024 had been a rollercoaster, concluding with the announcement of his December OHL Player of the Month honors.

Going back a full year, Sennecke was projected as a mid-to-late first-round draft pick for the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

He finished the 2023-24 season with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL by scoring 42 points in his final 32 games, increasing his draft stock considerably.

He established himself as a potential top-ten pick with his playoff performance, scoring ten goals and 22 points in 16 games and leading the Generals in points per game as they lost in the OHL final to the London Knights.

To the surprise of most, including Sennecke most of all, the Anaheim Ducks selected him with the third overall pick in the 2024 Draft.

He suffered a stress fracture during offseason training and didn't hit the ice until late into the Ducks' training camp.

His 2024-25 season got off to a slow start as he was held off the scoresheet for the first three games of his season.

Since then, he's scored 59 points in 30 games and sits sixth in OHL scoring (fifth if sorted by points per game).

Ducks' Top Prospect Snubbed from Canada World Junior Selection Camp

December has had its fair share of twists and turns for the 18-year-old, 6-foot-4 forward.

On Dec. 2, Hockey Canada announced their selection camp roster for the 2025 World Junior Championship with Sennecke notably absent.

Sennecke responded by scoring two goals and eight points in his next two games, including what may have been the Goal of the Year as he dangled London Knights, Team Canada, and San Jose Sharks 11th overall pick Sam Dickinson before ripping a shot that went bar-down and bar-down, again.

After his early December performance, Canada invited him to join their selection camp on Dec. 9 before cutting him from the final roster on Dec. 13.

Ultimately, he finished the month with nine goals and 22 points in just eight games and earned the title of OHL Player of the Month in the process.

Canada was ousted in the quarterfinal of the World Junior Championship by Czechia.

The Generals sit tied for fifth in the OHL standings, poised to make another deep playoff run in the Spring.

Sennecke, praised by Ducks' general manager Pat Verbeek for his ability to play a variety of styles, ranging from speed to power to skill, is one of the most dynamic prospects the Ducks have ever had in their organization.

After a substantial growth spurt over the previous two years, his brain seems to now understand his body more and it's leading to results at the major junior level.

His anticipation skills are unparalleled, as pucks are seemingly drawn to him and he can sniff out how pucks will emerge from battles in every zone.

He's a menace in open ice, where he can unleash his extraterrestrial puck skills, and at the flank on the power play, where has showcased his much-improved release.

Even following Sennecke's highlights and box score is appointment viewing and his January is picking up where his December left off, as he's started the new year with seven points in three games.
