Kylian Mbappe scored his first goal for Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup victory against Atalanta last night.

The 25-year-old joined the La Liga giants as a free agent this summer after a seven-year spell at Paris Saint-Germain.

He was on a brief holiday after his 2024 European Championship commitments with France and had only recently joined club training.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti handed Mbappe his first competitive start for Madrid and he made it a memorable debut at the National Stadium Warsaw.

The striker ran onto Jude Bellingham’s brilliant pass before firing into the top corner, winning his first trophy at the club.

Atalanta started on the front foot, with Marten de Roon’s effort hitting Madrid’s crossbar.

Ancelotti’s side stepped things up after the break as Federico Valverde broke the deadlock by tapping home Vinicius Junior’s pass in the 59th minute.

Mbappe doubled their lead with an excellent finish ten minutes later to secure a 2-0 win against the Europa League holders.

Madrid are the first club to win the Super Cup on six occasions. Barcelona and AC Milan have each won the competition five times.

Los Blancos will begin their 2024-25 La Liga campaign when they travel to Real Mallorca on Sunday.

They will play their first home match against Real Valladolid the following weekend.
