Drake loses massive bet on UFC fight, gets ripped by winner

Trying to keep it peaceful is admittedly a struggle for Drake and the Canadian rapper is probably less than enthused after losing $275,000 on a bet at UFC 272.

Drake made the wager on Jorge Masvidal to defeat Colby Covington on Saturday. Unfortunately for Drake, Covington — who was favoured entering the bout — defeated Masvidal by unanimous decision and couldn’t help but take some more shots at the OVO head honcho afterwards.

“Let’s talk about all the money Drake lost tonight," Covington said. "He needs to go back to, you know, selling those sh-tty albums to get back the money. He should’ve went to America’s pick of the week by my bookie. I tried to give the people the pick of the week! I’m America’s champ and I was America’s pick of the week.

“Drake, you suck at sports betting, go back to your sh-tty little albums and rapping.”

OK, so perhaps Covington was as underwhelmed by Certified Lover Boy as the rest of us or maybe he didn’t care for the Way 2 Sexy video (featuring Kawhi Leonard) but despite the galling sum Drake lost, we’ll bet that he’s going to be alright. And not to be pedantic but Certified Lover Boy is one of the most commercially successful albums in recent history.

Even in defeat, it’s not all bad for Drake either. Masvidal really appreciated Drake’s confidence in him, offering to take him out to dinner the next time he’s in Miami. You can bet the 6ix God will get his money's worth on that meal.

Most of us could only dream to wager $275,000 and walk away unscathed, but such is the life of a superstar at his cultural apex. And to think Drake may have scored a free dinner out of it is icing on the cake.
