Dortmund sack Nuri Şahin after just seven months in charge

Borussia Dortmund have sacked coach Nuri Şahin after just seven months in charge.

Dortmund confirmed the news on Wednesday in the wake of their 2-1 loss away to Bologna in the Champions League, with the decision being made through the night on their return home.

Şahin was hired as head coach over the summer having worked as assistant to Edin Terzić last term.

But his promotion has been an unmitigated disaster for the Schwarzgelben having won just 12 times all season domestically.

The latest embarrassment in Italy, a game in which they led, was their fourth consecutive defeat.

Former Ajax and Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag and Roger Schmidt are rumoured to be the leading contenders to replace Şahin.
