🇩🇪 Dortmund avoid shock in scintillating comeback victory over Bochum

Borussia Dortmund erased a two-goal deficit to come from behind and beat VfL Bochum at the Signal Iduna Park.

Scorers: Guirassy 44′, 75′, Can (P) 62′, Nmecha 81′ ; Bero 16′, De Wit 21′

Dortmund came into the night in desperate need of some positive vibes after a 5-1 thumping at the hands of Stuttgart last time out, but they got off to the worst possible to start when Matúš Bero capped off a rip-roaring Bochum counter to nab the lead on a blustery evening at the Signal Iduna Park.

To make matters worse, a bad giveaway from Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel allowed Dani de Wit to fire home the visitors’ second into an open net and unleash the whistles and jeers from the boisterous home crowd.

While it looked like the first-half would fizzle out with Dortmund in a major hole, Serhou Guirassy threw the hosts a lifeline when he headed home from close range to cut the lead in half.

As the pressure mounted after the break, Dortmund’s turnaround was given another boost when Guirassy was taken down in the box, forcing the referee to give the hosts a spot-kick. The subsequent penalty was coolly dispatched by Emre Can to level the score.

After taking their foot off the gas momentarily, the Dortmund pressure produced once again in the final 15 minutes when Serhou Guirassy showed why he was Dortmund’s top-target in the summer to slide home the third on the night, giving the home side the lead.

The final nail was driven into the Bochum coffin when second-half sub Felix Nmecha’s shot somehow got through the Bochum keeper and crept over the line, extending Dortmund’s lead to two in the dying minutes.
