Dolphins-Texans live blog: Tagovailoa coughs up the ball four times as Texans beat Fins 20-12
Four turnovers.
That was essentially the difference between a win and a loss as the Miami Dolphins fell to the Houston Texans 20-12.
Tua Tagovailoa threw interceptions on two of the game’s final three drives that essentially sealed the game for the Texans. The Dolphins signal caller finished with four turnovers on the day and acknowledged his need to be better during his post-game press conference.
“Plain and simple: it’s just my fault,” the Dolphins quarterback said. “I have to protect the ball. I got to play better ball for our guys.”
Added Tagovailoa: “That’s not how you win games in this league. Very disappointed with how I played today and with how I conducted myself on the field with our guys, with our team. I just need to be better.”
Tua Tagovailoa finds Jonnu Smith for first touchdown:
It was 4th-and-2.
Down 20-6, the Dolphins needed a touchdown to make it a one possession game.
Thank God for that Jonnu-Tua connection.
The duo linked up on 7-yard touchdown score to cut the Texans’ lead to 20-12.
Grant DuBose injury:
The receiver took a hard hit to the head in the third quarter.
DuBose was subsequently carted off and the Dolphins ruled him out with a head injury a short time later.
Per the team: “He is in stable condition and being taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. “
Tua Tagovailoa gives ball back:
Despite overcoming an early holding call that pushed the Dolphins out of field goal range, the offense was able to recover, getting the ball to the Houston 39.
Then Tagovailoa threw a pick.
Safety Calen Bullock snagged the ball out of the air and returned it 68-yards to set up yet another Texans field goal.
Texans lead 13-6 at halftime.
Jordyn Brooks secures fumble:
A mishandled snap from CJ Stroud resulted in a fumble recovery from Jordyn Brooks.
The linebacker carried the rock into Houston territory before being tackled.
A scary moment for the Dolphins: Jaylen Waddle got rolled up on as he tried to make a block in the second quarter.
He hobbled to the sideline before collapsing, holding his leg.
The severity of the injury is unclear but he hasn’t come back in since the injury.
Texans force turnover, offense scores TD:
The Herald tried to tell you about that Texans pass rush.
Well, they already have made their presence felt when a Will Anderson Jr. strip sack gave the Texans the ball deep in Miami territory.
Several plays later, CJ Stroud found Nico Collins for a 6-yard touchdown reception.
Texans lead 10-3.
The Dolphins will be without starting tackles Kendall Lamm and Terron Armstead.
Both tackles being deemed inactive means rookie Patrick Paul and former practice squad player Jackson Carmen will draw the start.
The Dolphins will also be without running back Jeff Wilson Jr., cornerback Ethan Bonner, tight end Jack Stoll, wide receiver Dee Eskridge and defensive tackle Neil Farrell.
