Dolphins lose another offensive tackle to season-ending injury. And other players hobbled

Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Kendall Lamm (70) stretches on the field before the start of their NFL game against the Las Vegas Raiders at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024, in Miami Gardens, Fla

The Dolphins will end their season in a vulnerable and diminished predicament at offensive tackle, with their top two right tackles now on injured reserve and their Pro Bowl left tackle dealing with a knee injury.

The Dolphins placed Kendall Lamm on injured reserve on Wednesday, ending his season. Lamm had been starting in place of starting right tackle Austin Jackson, who was lost for the season in November, after eight starts, because of a knee injury.

Lamm missed the Houston game with a back injury but had played the past two games and was on the injury report at all last week. He finishes his season with 15 appearances and seven starts.

Meanwhile, left tackle Terron Armstead’s status for Sunday’s game at the Jets (4:25 p.m., Fox) is highly questionable because of a knee injury that has bothered him for weeks, forced him to miss one game and forced him to leave two other games early, including last Sunday’s win in Cleveland.

If Armstead can play on Sunday, he would start at left tackle and rookie Patrick Paul likely would start at right tackle.

If Armstead cannot play on Sunday, Paul likely would start at left tackle and the Dolphins could use Jackson Carman, Isaiah Wynn or Liam Eichenberg at right tackle. Wynn and Eichenberg have played right tackle in the past but have been guards with Miami this season; they’ve platooned at right guard the past two weeks.

To fill the open roster spot, the Dolphins poached offensive tackle Braeden Daniels off Dallas’ practice squad.

Daniels was selected in the fourth round by Washington in the 2023 draft, spent his rookie year on injured reserve and was subsequently released. He also spent time on the practice squad with Houston, the L.A. Chargers, Philadelphia and Dallas in 2024.

He played collegiately at Utah, where he appeared in 49 career games with 43 starts – 18 at left guard, 14 at left tackle and 11 at right tackle. He was a Pac-12 All-Conference first-team selection in 2022.

The Dolphins opted for Daniels over three veteran offensive tackles who auditioned for them on Monday: Alex Leatherwood, Cameron Erving and Lucas Niang.

Injury report

Besides Lamm and Armstead, three other Dolphins missed practice: safety Jordan Poyer (knee/finger), linebacker Anthony Walker (knee) and defensive lineman Calais Campbell (rest). Earlier this week, coach Mike McDaniel did not sound optimistic about Walker playing on Sunday.

Five players were limited: quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (hip), receiver Jaylen Waddle (knee), safety Jevon Holland (wrist), receiver Tyreek Hill (wrist/rest) and punter Jake Bailey (back).

Waddle, who missed the past two games with a knee injury, said he’s feeling better but was non-committal about whether he would play at the Jets. Tagovailoa did very little during the open media portion of practice and the team is preparing for Tyler Huntley to start at quarterback Sunday unless Tagovailoa’s hip improves significantly and quickly.
