Dolphins' front office changes continue, as team hires Reggie McKenzie

The Miami Dolphins’ renovations aren’t confined to the coaching staff.

The changes within the team’s front office continued over the weekend, with Miami hiring Reggie McKenzie as a senior personnel executive.

The 56-year-old McKenzie was fired by the Oakland Raiders in early December, after nearly seven years as general manager.

He had a lot of work to do when he was hired, and was named the NFL’s executive of the year in 2016, after the Raiders went 12-4 and made the playoffs for the first time in 15 years. Among McKenzie’s picks were current Oakland starting quarterback Derek Carr, All-Pro pass-rusher Khalil Mack and Pro Bowl receiver Amari Cooper.

McKenzie has been an NFL personnel executive for 15 years; before he was with Oakland, he was with the Green Bay Packers.

Chris Grier gets more say

McKenzie will be working with Miami general manager Chris Grier, who got more say and power when the team announced on Dec. 31 that he will oversee football operations and that vice president of football operations Mike Tannenbaum had been reassigned within the organization.

Grier now reports directly to owner Stephen Ross, and was responsible for hiring new head coach Brian Flores.
