Dolphins camp report: Who impressed, who didn’t, who’s missing from Tuesday’s session

Notes, highlights and observations from Dolphins training camp practice No. 14 on Tuesday in Miami Gardens:

Among the highlights: Good work from rookie Chop Robinson, who had a sack and made several other nice plays; an interception from safety Marcus Maye on a deflected Tua Tagovailoa pass; and a long pass from Mike White to Tyreek Hill.

Cornerbacks Kendall Fuller and Siran Neal and tight end Jonnu Smith were among others who had good days. There was also an Erik Ezukanma sighting; he caught a TD in red zone drills from White.

Injuries and other absences continue to impact both units. At cornerback, Jalen Ramsey and Ethan Bonner missed a second consecutive practice; the team has not disclosed a reason.

Ramsey appears to be walking around fine; he was on the stationary bicycle Tuesday. Bonner has shown concussion symptoms, according to a source.

Cornerback Cam Smith, who has missed most of the practices the past two weeks because of injuries, increased his workload Tueday.

Starting safeties Jevon Holland and Jordan Poyer (finger) did not appear to participate in 11-on-11 drills. Poyer has been running hard on the sidelines.

On the defensive line, Benito Jones missed a fourth consecutive practice Neville Gallimore went inside after individual drills; he remains limited.

Rookie edge player Mo Kamara missed a fourth consecutive practice but was working on the field without a helmet. Jaelan Phillips, who came off PUP on Monday, was working alongside Kamara for a time.

Offensively, tight ends Tanner Conner and Jody Fortson Jr. and center Aaron Brewer (hand) remain sidelined.

Among running backs Jeff Wilson Jr. also remains out; he had a bandage on his nose. But Salvon Ahmed returned to practice after missing a couple of weeks with a foot injury.

Receiver Jaylen Waddle missed a fifth consecutive practice with what coach Mike McDaniel said is something minor. Anthony Schwartz remains sidelined.

Emmanuel Ogbah was the top performer in 1-on-1 drills pitting offensive linemen and defensive players.

Rookie left tackle Patrick Paul did a good job fending off defensive linemen in 1-on-1 drills. Starting left tackle Terron Armstead generally has been watching those drills.

▪ But Armstead did get brief work in 11 on 11 drills, which is unusual for this training camp.

▪ Raheem Mostert had short gains on two runs to start 11 on 11 drills. Then Tagovailoa hit Mostert for a short pickup in the flat.

▪ Rookie running back Jaylen Wright had a strong run up for the middle, for about 10. Then Ahmed had a decent run in his first carry in a couple of weeks.

▪ Maye intercepted a Tagovailoa pass that was tipped by Siran Neal. It was intended for Braylon Sanders. Tagovailoa wasn’t at his best on Tuesday.

▪ Robinson set the edge on a running play was limited to a couple of yards. Robinson has done much better against the run over the past 10 days.

Robinson also disrupted a roll out pass from Tagovailoa to Tyreek Hill.

▪ Safety Patrick McMorris limited a screen pass for a negligible gain. McMorris has been very good over the past week.

▪ Mike White, who didn’t get any snaps on Monday, got some work on Tuesday and hit Tyreek Hill for a 40-yard gain.

▪ Tagovailoa threw high to Kyric McGowan, with Emmanuel Ogbah and Da’Shawn Hand putting pressure on the Dolphins quarterback. Tagovailoa responded with consecutive completions to Durham Smythe.

▪ Look for Jonathan Harris to get a chance to compete with Brandon Pili at backup nose tackle. Isaiah Mack also is expected to get a chance to compete for the backup nose tackle job behind Jones. Harris had a sack on Tuesday.

Also, expect Calais Campbell to move inside some on passing downs; he has done that in the past.

▪ Tagovailoa’s pass to Willie Snead IV was broken up by Fuller.

▪ Skylar Thompson delivered a beautiful 15 yard pass to Braylon Sanders, then hit McGowan for a 10-yard reception.

▪ Quinton Bell had a tackle for loss on Mostert. Bell is back to making plays after a quiet couple of practices.

▪ David Long Jr. broke up an errant Tagovalioa pass to Smythe. Tagovailoa then hit Tyreek Hill for a seven-yard gain and then connected with River Cracraft for 11 yards.

▪ A Tagovailoa pass from Jordyn Brooks should have been picked if off, but Brooks couldn’t hold on. At least Brooks knocked it down, something he did well in Seattle. He made himself do pushups after that play, and he said he should have intercepted it.

▪ Robinson then sacked Tagovailoa, continuing a very good day for the Penn State rookie.

▪ Starting left guard Robert Jones wore the orange jersey bestowed on the player who excelled in the previous day’s practice.

▪ Duke Riley had a tackle for loss on Jaylen Wright. Riley is the one veteran linebacker who hasn’t dealt with an injury in camp. Anthony Walker Jr. remains sidelined.

▪ Thompson hit Braylon Sanders on a nifty throw for a 15-yard gain. Sanders has made some plays over the past 10 days.

▪ Calais Campbell had a nice stop on De’Von Achane, limiting his reception to a short gain on third down and six.

▪ Tight end Jonnu Smith scored a touchdown on an end around. Smith has been dynamic the past few days.

▪ Fuller knocked away a pass from Tagovailoa on red zone drills.

▪ Brooks limited a red zone running play to no gain.

▪ Tagovailoa evaded pressure and hit Erik Ezukanma for a touchdown in red zone drills. The media questioned whether it should have been a sack.

▪ Mike White hit Julian Hill for a TD pass in red zone drills, beating Jordan Colbert. Hill continues his solidify his spot as the Dolphins’ No. 3 tight end.

▪ Offensive lineman Kion Smith, who will miss the season with a knee injury, watched practice with a brace on his left leg.

▪ Mack was dislodged by Jack Driscoll, who has been better recently.

Driscoll is competing for the right guard job and also has received work at center. If Lester Cotton wins the right guard job, then Driscoll could end up backing up Liam Eichenberg at center (until Brewer returns) and Cotton at right guard. When Brewer returns, Eichenberg and Cotton and Driscoll likely would compete at right guard.

▪ Siran Neal had very good coverage on an incomplete thrown from White to Malik Washington.
