D'oh Canada: CBC calls entire race mixing up Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte

Michael Phelps cruised to his 22nd career Olympic gold medal in the 200-meter individual medley, but someone might want to tell Canadian broadcaster Elliotte Friedman.

Friedman, either suffering from an epic mix-up or performing an all-time troll job, called the entire race for the CBC confusing Phelps’ lane for Lochte’s. So, while Phelps pushed ahead of the field, Friedman continually lauded what he thought was a career performance from Lochte.

“Ryan Lochte is going for it … and Phelps doesn’t look like he has this one in him,” Friedman said. “Ryan Lochte, going for his 13th career medal, saving the best for last! Finally he’s going to do it!”

In reality, Phelps won by over two seconds, while Lochte finished in fifth.

To his credit, Friedman quickly owned his mistake on air and on Twitter, but the damage was already done.
