The United States Women's National Team defeated Zambia in its first group stage game of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Thursday, and now shifts its attention to the second of its three qualifying matches.

The USWNT opened the Games with a 3-0 rout over Zambia, will all of its three goals coming within eight minutes of each other. Forward Trinity Rodman opened the scoring with a goal in the 17th minute, before Mallory Swanson scored two goals within 70 seconds of each other in the 24th and 25th minute.

The USWNT is aiming for its first gold medal at the Olympics since 2012, when the squad won the Games in London. The United States are led by first-year coach Emma Hayes, the former Chelsea manager who was hired as Vlatko Andonovski's replacement after its disappointing performance at last summer's World Cup.

To get there, it must first get past the group stage, with the top two teams in each of the three groups advancing to the knockout stage.

The USWNT's next match is against Germany, whom it faces at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 28, at Stade de Marseille in Marseille, France.

The match marks the second of its three group stage games, with the first coming against Zambia and the last against Australia.
