Does South Carolina football have a top 100 player? EA Sports doesn’t think so

Leading up to the July 19 release of the highly-anticipated “College Football 25” video game, EA Sports has been rolling out ranking after ranking.

A few weeks ago, the company said Williams-Brice Stadium was the 15th-toughest place to play in college football. Clemson’s Memorial Stadium, meanwhile, came in at No. 13.

On Wednesday, the company released who will be the top 100 rated players in the video game. The three best, according to EA, are Michigan CB Will Johnson (96 overall rating), LSU LT Will Campbell (96 OVR) and Oklahoma State RB Ollie Gordon III (96 OVR).

Scrolling down the list, though, you’ll notice an absence.

There are no South Carolina players ranked in the Top 100. None!

Meanwhile, a pair of Clemson Tigers were listed. Veteran LB Barrett Carter (94 overall rating) is the 15th best player in the game and sophomore DT Peter Woods comes in at No. 91 (90 overall).

Perhaps it’s not too surprising USC was left out. Only one Gamecock who made any of the All-SEC teams last year is still on the roster ... and it’s the long snapper (Hunter Rogers).

South Carolina’s quarterback, LaNorris Sellers, has never started a game. Its running back, Arkansas transfer Rocket Sanders, missed most of last season with an injury. And arguably the most well-known Gamecock, receiver Nyck Harbor, is just a sophomore with 12 career catches.

One-time freshman All-American safety Nick Emmanwori, who struggled with injury in 2023, is also nowhere to be found.

South Carolina is one of just five SEC schools (among the 16) without a player ranked in the Top 100.

Here’s the full breakdown of how many each SEC school has.
