How does Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb know how to speak perfect Portuguese?

Some fans on social media were left stunned by Oscar Bobb’s ability to speak fluent Portuguese during pre-season, as he spoke to TNT Sports in Brazil.

The Norway international has largely been at the centre of everything excellent during Manchester City’s pre-season tour of the United States so far, recording an impressive total of three assists and a goal in three outings.

A fourth assist was inches away from arriving in Tuesday night’s clash with FC Barcelona in Orlando too, as Bobb once again combined with Erling Haaland, before his effort was incorrectly adjudged to have been cleared off the goal-line.

But whilst plenty of people are rightly speaking about the 21-year-old’s remarkable performances on the pitch, Oscar Bobb is also receiving rave reviews for his excellence off it, and his ability to speak another fluent language outside of Norwegian and English.

Speaking after the narrow 2-3 defeat to AC Milan at Yankee Stadium in New York, Bobb spoke with TNT Sports in Brazil’s Fred Caldeira, with the entirety of the conversation conducted in Portuguese.

But how exactly has Oscar Bobb come to learn fluent Portuguese, with his home nation being Norway and spending the last several years in England?

As relayed by A Bola, Oscar Bobb has previously revealed that he lived in the Portuguese city of Porto for two years, having played in the Dragons’ esteemed youth system, where he also learned the nation’s language.

Speaking during a previous interview, the 21-year-old has also revealed that the ability to speak Portuguese has helped him to communicate with the likes of Ederson, Bernardo Silva, Matheus Nunes, and Ruben Dias, as well as Manchester City’s Spanish players.

Whilst Oscar Bobb is widely regarded as being the future of Manchester City’s attacking line, showing versatility in a number of positions, the Premier League champions have had to work above and beyond to retain the player.

Just last summer, the understanding was that Manchester City officials rejected enquiries from the likes of Ajax and the aforementioned FC Porto for Bobb, among several loan approaches for the forward.

The forward is likely to be grateful for the decision taken by Manchester City at a crucial moment in his career, with a clear run of opportunities now expected in the first-team picture following promising moments during the last campaign with the senior squad.
