Does Adam Fox Have What It Takes To Be Captain Of The Rangers?
Do me a favor and keep your eyes on Adam Fox at The Garden tonight in what should be an easy win over the fallen Blackhawks.
For the past few days I've been debating with myself who should succeed the itinerant Jacob Trouba as Rangers captain. There are no less than four worthy candidates from The Breadman to The Checkman.
Whatever value Jake The Rake had as a Rangers leader disappeared the moment he became an argument center last Summer.
Right or wrong, the heavy-hitting defenseman turned into – You should excuse the expression – a polarizing figure not only on the Blueshirts but among the fans as well.
The fact of the matter is that a team like the Rangers needs a captain – a leader, a face of the franchise, NOW, and not whenever the high command finishes its stall on this issue.
Because he's been a pure Ranger, Norris Trophy-winner, Met Area native and power play quarterback, I reiterate that Adam Fox has the qualifications for captaincy.
So, watch him tonight and tell me whether the following knocks against him are valid:
1. He's too soft.
2. His game has deteriorated.
3. He's displayed no obvious examples of leadership, except running the power play.
4. Nobody really cares if he grew up a Rangers fan and is dedicated to the team.
Tonight's look – because of the weak foe – won't be definitive, but it may help prove – one way or the other whether Adam Fox rates the "C."
